Our day at The Kew Golf Club was blessed with enthusiastic golfers, a great venue and excellent results but most of all by wonderful camaraderie among the participants. The conditions were typical of Melbourne in Autumn – starting off cool but improving to a delightful 30 degrees as the players made their way around the course. The 29 teams who participated in the 88th Annual Women’s Inter-School Golf Challenge Cup enjoyed the lush fairways and parkland vistas and the billabongs and Yarra River offered a few challenges as evidenced by the lower scores overall. The competition was hotly contested by the majority of schools.

Congratulations to all who played golf and sincere thanks to all who volunteered with the running of the golf event and assistance with the produce stall and raffle.

The stall of fresh produce, cakes, preserves and other items was well supported and we raised $1,292 from the stall and the raffle did well too raising $732. Thanks to all players for their support of our charity. We are delighted to be able to send a donation of $4,500 to The Cottage by the Sea this year. We are grateful to Kew Golf Club and Town and Country for their generous donations for the raffle. The friendship and enthusiastic chatter among participants during lunch was a wonderful indicator of the positive enthusiasm and support for such a long standing event.

Well done to Fintona , our winning team. It’s been a long time since the last win in 1983. No doubt they will be back to defend next year at Kew. Commiserations to St Margarets who could only field 3 players on the day due to last minute illness. Mentone also were unable to field a team this year much to their disappointment. We hope they are able to get a team together next year. Well done to our ‘A’ and ‘B’ winners as well. Scores were markedly down from last year but all players must have enjoyed the beautiful course at Kew albeit in renovation mode.

The raffle prize was a round of golf for four players generously donated by The Kew Golf Club for which we are extremely grateful. Alison Davies from PLC won the raffle.
