90th WOMEN’S INTER-SCHOOL GOLF CHALLENGE CUP
Was held on Monday 1st April 2019
at The Sorrento Golf Club
Langford Road, Sorrento
It was a great day on Monday 1st April last as we celebrated the 90th year of the Womens’ Inter School Golf Challenge Cup. We believe this to be the longest running Charity Golf Event in Victoria, if not Australia and are very proud of our heritage. The weather stayed kind, and in fact was described by our Secretary, Sue Thomas, as benign and ideal for golf, especially as there was no wind to speak of and the results reflect the ideal conditions. We all enjoyed a great buffet lunch and good golf with good company. There is always great cameraderie amongst the players and school team members enjoy reflecting on their days golf over lunch.
The organising committee had put a lot of work in to making the 90th Anniversary event extra special. Each guest was given a commemorative program with the history of the event as well as a golf green repairer with a magnetic ball marker. The scrap books with details of the events going back were on show as were a lot of newspaper cuttings from past events.
The results from our day can be accessed via the link below.
The Stall for ‘Cottage by the Sea’, run by Cathy Ockleshaw and their many helpers raised $1000 which was a great result. The raffle also did well with $716 raised. We are grateful to The Sorrento Golf Club and Lynlea Brumley (‘Passion in the Pantry’), for their generous donations for the raffle.
With the raffle, stall, and each players donation with entry fee, we are hoping to send $4000.00 to Cottage By the Sea – a great effort. Thanks to all players and school Representatives for their support of our charity.
Well done to Korowa, our winning team. No doubt they will be back to defend next year at Sorrento. We were delighted to welcome Camberwel Girls Grammar School as a new school and empathise with Sacre Coeur rwho were unable to field a team this year much to their disappointment. Well done to our ‘A’ and ‘B’ winners as well. Scores were reasonably high this year but all players hopefully enjoyed the beautiful course at Sorrento.
The AGM for all Reps will be held at Sorrento Golf Club on Friday 13th September.
Details of the next Challenge Cup will be announced once they become available. The Sorrento Golf Club will be the venue again.
