2016 Winners Geelong Grammar School

2016 Winners Geelong Grammar School

Winning Team representing Geelong Grammar: L to R: Camilla Groves, Sue Jackson, Chrissy Skinner and Katryna Economou

Our day at The Metropolitan Golf Club was blessed with enthusiastic golfers, a great venue and excellent results but most of all by wonderful camaraderie among the participants.   The conditions were typical of Melbourne in Autumn – starting off cold, damp and grey and improving to blue skies and warm sunshine as the day progressed.  The 30 teams who participated in the 87th Annual Women’s Inter-School Golf Challenge Cup enjoyed the lush fairways but recently cored greens and heavy wet bunkers offered a few challenges as evidenced by the lower scores overall. The competition was hotly contested by the majority of schools.

Congratulations to all who played golf and sincere thanks to all who volunteered  with the running of the golf event and assistance with the produce stall and raffle.

The stall of fresh produce, cakes, preserves and other items was well supported and we raised $1,341 from the stall and the raffle raised $666.40. We are delighted to be able to send a donation of $3,500 to The Cottage by the Sea this year.  The friendship and enthusiastic chatter among participants during lunch was a wonderful indicator of the positive enthusiasm and support for such a long standing event.

We were honoured to have Anne Catchpole, the Melbourne Community Relations Representative for The Cottage by the Sea, Queenscliff as our guest speaker. Anne gave an informative media presentation and offered us all great insight into the work this wonderful charity does for disadvantaged children and has done for 125 years.

The raffle prize was a round of golf for two players generously donated by The Metropolitan Golf Club for which we are extremely grateful. Shona MacInnes from PLC won the raffle.
