The Women’s Inter-School Golf Challenge Cup was first held in 1929 for Old Collegians of Independent Schools in Victoria, Australia.
The 90th annual golf day was held at The Sorrento Golf Club on Monday 1st April 2019. The annual inter-school golf match is a team event comprising four female players who are past students of a member school and hold a current Golf Australia Handicap (limit 35). The next Golf Challenge Cup will be held at The Sorrento Golf Club late in March 2020.
The Annual General Meeting of School Representatives will be held on Friday 13th September 2019 at The Sorrento Golf Club.
The competition was developed to foster teamwork in Associate golf and to support a selected charity. The event has supported “The Cottage by The Sea” for many years now, with a stall held on the day and from any surplus over our costs.
Originally Old Collegians’ Associations were able to enter up to 15 players per school and the four best scores constituted the team but with 30 schools now competing, each school enters a team of four players.
The magnificent antique cup of solid silver, was made in London in 1827 in the reign of George IV and donated by Table Talk Magazine, when it was 102 years old. The cup has had some extra height incorporated into the plinth, to cater for many more years of winning team’s names being added.
